Dear friend,

This is a crunch fortnight for the Climate Bill. It begins its journey through the Oireachtas with a big debate in the Dáil this afternoon, on the principle of the legislation.

It’s an exciting moment, but we also know that as the Bill enters the formal legislative process polluting industries are paying attention like never before, and the Bill could still be diluted or derailed by those lobbyists seeking exemptions or special treatment.

We need to ensure that our voices - in support of climate action - are louder than those who oppose it.

So could you email your TDs now asking them to keep the Climate Law strong during this crucial fortnight?

This is also the crucial time for improving the Climate Bill. There are still areas where it needs to be strengthened, and remaining loopholes must be fixed. This law will drive climate action for the next decade and beyond - so we need to get it right. We can’t afford to let weaknesses slip through.

It’s time for our TDs to step up and make sure the changes we need are made. They’ve got a couple of weeks to do this now - before it’s too late and the Bill is passed into law.

, when the draft Climate Bill was published last year I was very disappointed. It was full of weaknesses and loopholes. But I was also filled with hope by the response of Stop Climate Chaos supporters like you - who leapt into action to demand better. That action has made a real difference, this revised Climate Bill is much stronger.

There’s no doubt about it, we’ve come a long way. We’re on the home straight now - but we’ve got to stick at it until we get it over the line.
