John —

No jury’s decision can bring back George Floyd, or undo the pain felt by his family, his friends and his community. But the verdict today is a measure of accountability, and true justice will take time.

Just as we come to grips with one tragedy and verdict, we must grapple with new cases of police violence, including the deaths of 13 year old Adam Toledo in Chicago and 20 year old Daunte Wright in Minnesota, just miles from where George Floyd was murdered.

The jury is in – but now it’s up to us to carry on the hard work of societal change and, as Dr. King said, ensure that while the moral arc of the universe is long, it still bends towards justice.

Here’s what you can do tonight:

Last summer, I asked you to help build up social justice organizations doing important work to reform and repair our justice system. And you came through. Tonight, we can help sustain those organizations’ powerful work, once again.

If you’re able to, please support the fight for racial justice by making a donation to Black Lives Matter Global Network, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Campaign Zero, and the Bail Project: [[link removed]]

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

True justice will take time and lots of work. Today, all of our thoughts are with George Floyd’s friends and family. And tomorrow, the work continues.
