Wow! Let’s take a second and breathe. We are happy that, on some level, justice has been served in the criminal court for the horrific murder of George Floyd. I applaud the thoroughness and prudence of every member of the team that worked on this case and trial.
As a black man in America with a pretty rational mind, I can’t be happy or rejoice. I’m actually very afraid for black men tonight as the sun prepares to set. Retaliation is a real thing. Unfortunately, in America, justice looks different, and its definition varies from municipality to municipality, county to county, and state to state in this nation. Because of that - this same level of justice may not be the same for the next victims. As we’ve seen time after time, from
Trayvon Martin to, Breonna Taylor, every family doesn’t get this type of closure.
A case is being filed in the appellate court as we speak. And, we must stay on our jobs as activists and advocates if we want to see a
more perfect Union that embodies equity and parity for all of its inhabitants.
This is not the end! Let’s get back to work.
