Dear Friend:

Yesterday, a survey spread throughout our community questioning our district's progressive values. I want to send a message that is clear: The progressive values that serve our community only strengthen us in our fight to end the malice and enmity you seek to spread throughout vulnerable areas in New York.

Now more than ever before, our ability to firmly champion bold, progressive legislation on the State Senate remains a critical component in championing fair practices for our middle-class families, schools, seniors, immigrant communities, and LGBTQ+ coalitions. Every day, we are reminded how the progress of these policies continue to influence our neighborhoods in defying expectations and succeeding in uplifting our residents. Queens is a better, fairer home for so many in our district not in spite of the reach of our progressive values, but because of them.

And so I remind you: elections may come and go, but the progressive movements that shape our understanding of what we are able to accomplish together right here in District 13 will continue onward. It’s exactly those inclusive values that powerfully spearheaded my campaign in successfully winning a democratic majority on the State Senate and those goals which subsequently gave New Yorkers significantly long-awaited Real Democratic representation in the State legislature.

From expansive legislative strides to crucial day-to-day district activities, we continue to evolve our work around upholding a simple belief we know to be true: Every human being deserves to be treated equally, fairly, and is worthy of self-dignity. Through adversity and challenge, we maintain our fight in transforming our communities with better, fairer practices that guarantee such dignity and justice all across the board within the State of New York. From protecting upstate Farmworkers to providing financial stability to car wash workers right here at home, our values continue to transcend boundaries in ensuring the existence of broad-ranging fair labor practices and governing policies.

Throughout the national pandemic of presidential fear-mongering, political cynicism, and the incitement of hatred across our nation – our progressive values have endured through adversity. Together, we successfully advocated for our immigrant communities, worked to protect everyday employees, proactively de-stigmatized mental health in cultural settings, pushed women’s rights to the forefront of our agenda, and stood strong with our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors.

In our campaign, we recognize that meaningful change originates from the bottom up. Here, we know that our possibilities revitalize when members of our communities begin to stand up and engage in the fight to protect all New Yorkers. Join me in leading that fight towards continuing to uplift our working communities and transforming what we know to be possible on the New York State Senate.

Thank you for building in this movement with me.

All my best,

Jessica
