Josh Hawley, the man who saluted white supremacists as they stormed the Capitol on January 6, just pulled off a major fundraising haul -- and he's not up for reelection until 2024. If you aren't concerned yet, you should be.
Republicans are being rewarded for voting to overturn the election results -- for trying to silence the will of millions of Americans.
As MSNBC's Steve Benen put it, “Hawley took an aggressive stand against his own country's democracy, at which point the money started rolling in. … The related message to every other Republican is obvious: you, too, can get a fundraising and media boost. … All you have to do is follow Josh Hawley's lead.”
And that's exactly what Republicans are doing, every day. They're seeking Trump's endorsement, fabricating lies about our elections to justify new voting restrictions, and attacking the Biden administration.
The GOP is descending into fascism, and according to FiveThirtyEight, they're going to take back Washington next year if Democrats don't pick up the pace.
In 2020, we all felt the weight of fighting for the soul of our nation. We knew that if Donald Trump won again, he would destroy the values our country was founded on. We knew what was at stake. We rose to the occasion, and we won.
But we're getting worried, honestly. While white supremacists like Josh Hawley and Marjorie Taylor Greene have raised millions, we've been struggling to energize Democrats, and our grassroots donations have plummeted. It's early -- we still have time to reverse this trend, but we need to act now.
