URGENT - Take Action for Immigrant Rights!
In the past few months, our team at CIRC Action and CIRC, along with Colorado state legislators and immigrant rights organizations have championed critical bills protecting immigrant rights, including Senate Bill 131 [[link removed]] and House Bill 1194 [[link removed]] .
After hearing testimonies from our community on how protecting Coloradans’ Data Privacy and creating a Legal Defense Fund would benefit our communities, both bills passed out of their respective committees and have been referred to the Appropriations Committee.
We would like to thank Sen. Julie Gonzales and Rep. Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez for sponsoring SB131; and Rep. Kerry Tipper, Rep. Naquetta Ricks, and Sen. Dominick Moreno for sponsoring HB1194.Thank you, also, to our community members for providing testimonies in legislative hearings.
Our State Representatives and Senators need to hear from you! You can support these bills as they move forward by writing an email to your legislators [[link removed]] and telling them to vote in favor of and to prioritize funding for SB131 and HB1194!

Holding Senator Hickenlooper Accountable
Last Friday, April 16th, the Boulder County Democratic Party voted to condemn Senator Hickenlooper for his vote to block undocumented immigrants from receiving pandemic aid payments. Our Managing Director, Alex Galeana said that the resolution, “shows that they are willing to stand up for the democratic values of supporting our community...We commend that.”(Source: Colorado Politics " Boulder County Democrats condemn Hickenlooper [[link removed]] ")
CIRC Action Fund endorsed Senator Hickenlooper in the 2020 US Senate elections, hoping that he would uphold immigrant rights in his legislative actions. His vote to further disenfranchise undocumented immigrants by blocking their access to pandemic aid payments, however, deeply hurt our community. Since that vote, the senator has taken steps to rectify his actions. As he continues his work in the US Senate, we hope Senator Hickenlooper will remember his responsibility to serve his constituents in the immigrant community and act to uphold their rights.
Statewide Banner Drop for Immigrant Rights
On April 9th, members of our staff and other community members participated in a state-wide banner drop to demand inclusive federal immigration reforms.
The House of Representatives passed the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 on March 18th, signaling big changes to come for immigration policies in the US. However, while this act would provide permanent resident status and a path to citizenship for people with DACA and TPS (Temporary Protected Status), it also includes harmful carve-outs that would exclude thousands of people from this opportunity.
We believe that everyone should have equitable access to a fair pathway to citizenship, one without exclusion and the risk of deportation . We are now calling on our legislators from Colorado serving in the federal government to honor immigrant rights by removing the exclusionary carve-outs from the Dream and Promise Act.
