Congress must legalize marijuana federally and work to expunge cannabis-related convictions.

Take action: [link removed]

Friend,

17 states have already legalized recreational marijuana but federal action is long overdue. This 4/20, we must call on Congress to finally legalize cannabis at the federal level and expunge past records.

Let’s be clear -- marijuana laws in the United States are explicitly designed to incarcerate communities of color, and law enforcement continues to disproportionately target Black and brown people for cannabis-related arrests.

Though there is much work to be done to rectify decades of racist drug policies, action from Congress would be an important step toward justice.

Tell your members of Congress to legalize marijuana at the federal level and expunge the records of cannabis-related arrests: [link removed]

Our nation cannot afford to continue pursuing a failed drug policy. By legalizing cannabis federally, we can begin to correct the wrongs of the past.

Though most arrests related to cannabis are at the state or local level, federal marijuana legislation can expunge federal records and help pressure state and local officials to do the same.

In some states or localities that have already legalized recreational marijuana, we’ve seen how cannabis legalization efforts can fail to invest in communities hardest hit by the War on Drugs. To do this right, we must ensure profits and new jobs created by the growing cannabis industry directly benefit Black and brown communities that have been targeted in the past.
