Today is a big day, friends.
Earlier this morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and I reintroduced the Green New Deal.
When we first introduced the Green New Deal in 2019, we knew we had a fight ahead of us. But in the two years since, our movement has grown tremendously, and continues to reach further each and every day. Thanks to grassroot supporters like you tirelessly organizing, advocating for real change, and chipping in small-dollar donations, our momentum has never been stronger.
As a result, the Biden administration is including climate action, environmental justice, and the care economy in its recovery plans. More than 100 cities nationwide have already committed to 100% clean, renewable energy. New York City has a Green New Deal. Maine enacted a Green New Deal. The Seattle City Council passed a Green New Deal resolution.
The policies at the center of the Green New Deal are enormously popular, and it has completely reshaped the conversation around climate change happening not only in Washington DC, but in cities, towns, and communities all across the country.
That’s why I have an important message to send here on this historic day:
The age of incrementalism is over. We have an incredible opportunity to pass revolutionary legislation with climate justice at its core, and bring transformative, meaningful change to millions of people across the country and billions across the planet.
Together we can create millions of good-paying, union jobs, we can deliver justice to frontline communities most affected by the ravages of the climate crisis, and put simply, and we can help save our planet from destruction. That’s why I’m asking you today:
Thank you in advance for adding your name. The movement for a just and livable future has never been stronger, and you should be incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together to get to this moment.
The era of the Green New Deal is here. I look forward to everything still to come.
In solidarity,
