[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear ,
Whether you light up, prefer edibles or observe the festivities from afar, it’s a great day to celebrate New York finally legalizing recreational cannabis.
This victory came thanks to years of grassroots organizing, but we have a ways to go before we reach true cannabis justice. Now is the time to hold the state accountable in centering Black and Brown communities — who have been devastated by the war on drugs — to benefit first from this step.
Donate today to help elect a mayor who knows that legalization was the starting point for cannabis justice, not the finish line >> [[link removed]]
Here’s the thing: Even with legalization, there will not be full decriminalization of cannabis until the NYPD stops the ongoing arrests of Black and Brown New Yorkers for possession; until we remove the collateral consequences of cannabis-related offenses; and until we fully reinvest into communities impacted by criminalization.
As mayor, Dianne would continue to push the state to finally address the injustices suffered by poor Black and Brown communities while economic opportunities in the cannabis industry only grew for those with privilege.
That means fighting for the above — as well to expunge ALL cannabis-related convictions, not just possessions under the legal limit; ensuring the medicinal advantages of cannabis are accessible to all communities; and taking other steps toward cannabis justice that you can read in her Green Jobs, Green Food, Green Justice [[link removed]] plan.
Legalized cannabis isn’t going to magically repair the harm done to our communities by the war on drugs. Rush a donation today to help us organize to elect a mayor who will fight for true equity and justice in the state’s recreational rollout.
