John,
One of the keys to eradicating hunger and poverty for good is ensuring that families in need have reliable, steady income. Many Heifer participants start their own small businesses — some sell products like milk, cheese or eggs, some open restaurants and some provide veterinary services to other families using the skills Heifer taught them.
But trying to do business without the right technology can be hard ... sometimes, it can feel impossible.

That's why Heifer has teamed up with mobile tech companies to ensure that even the most isolated farmers have access to the technology they need to be successful.

In Kenya, dairy farmers not only have access to the technology that allows their businesses to prosper, but Heifer Kenya has expanded the technology these farmers have access to include virtual training and farmer chat rooms — particularly necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now Kenyan dairy farmers' businesses are thriving thanks to electronic record keeping, 24-hour access to dairy cow husbandry information, electronic calendars and more.
From veterinary services to record keeping, technology is the key to a profitable business — and dependable income. This technology once seemed out of reach for small family farmers. But with a hand up from Heifer the future is theirs for the taking.
This project is still new, but it's already transforming lives around Kenya, helping these farming families survive — and thrive — during the pandemic ... and beyond.
With gratitude,
Kimberly Perrow
