Today, we filed an emergency motion asking the Oklahoma Supreme Court to block a law that bans the standard method of abortion after approximately 14 weeks of pregnancy. We are fighting to ensure the court ultimately finds the ban unconstitutional, protecting the health and rights of all Oklahomans.
A ban like this has never been upheld in court before because it requires doctors to deviate from the standard method of abortion after approximately 14 weeks. But in July, an Oklahoma state judge became the first judge in the country to uphold such a law, paving the way for it to take effect.
The ban, if allowed to take effect, will immediately restrict access to abortion after 14 weeks in Oklahoma, and we need to dig deep to defeat it. Please make a gift of $25 or more today to support our work to protect reproductive rights in Oklahoma and beyond.
We're also asking the Court to strike down a law that forces women to wait at least 72 hours after receiving state-mandated counseling before they can have an abortion. Doctors who violate either of these laws could be charged with a felony. And doctors who violate the ban could face up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Laws like these represent legislative interference at its worst. Policymakers in Oklahoma, and across the country, are choosing politics over our health and rights by passing laws that make it harder for patients to access the care they need.
