Hi John,

Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women -- and these numbers have held true for decades. The United States is the wealthiest country in the world, and yet our maternal mortality rate is significantly higher than any other developed nation.

These statistics were at the front of my mind during Black Maternal Health Awareness Week last week -- but my dedication to helping end the disproportionate maternal mortality rate among Black women is ongoing.

That is why I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act, which would establish task forces and award grants within the Department of Health and Human Services to end this disparity once and for all.

It seems like it should be a no-brainer to pass this bill, but no Republicans have signed on as cosponsors. It looks like they're gearing up to block this life-saving legislation just because it comes from the desks of Democrats.

That's why I need your support right now. Will you add your voice to mine in advocating for the Momnibus Act, safe and quality health care across the country, and equality for our marginalized communities? I'm hoping for 500 survey responses before midnight.
