Detroit’s police chief went on TV to call for Rashida Tlaib’s resignation
over her comments criticizing mass incarceration and over-policing in our
communities.

This just shows how reactionary law enforcement is when facing criticism.
Rashida is fighting for radical change in how we keep folks safe, as Black
people are killed by police again and again, and Black and brown
communities across the country are over-policed, criminalized, and
brutalized by law enforcement. Rashida will continue to speak truth to
power, and we need to be there with her.

plenty of powerful people, like the Detroit police chief, who want her out

We know that police trainings, other half-measures, and so-called police
reforms do not stop the violent, targeted, racist policing we see in
Detroit and all across the country. It’s time to go beyond half-measures.
We need to cut police budgets and invest money in the care and services
our communities need. Taking care of our people as the first priority will
make us so much safer.

As Rashida fights for a better society, it’s unfortunately no surprise
that powerful people entrenched in the status quo want her to resign. We
need to be there for Rashida and help her fend off these attacks.
