Sun. April 25: Join Car Caravans to say
"End the U.S. Blockade on Cuba"
Dear friends of ANSWER Coalition:
Across the U.S., Car Caravans are being organized to demand “End the U.S. Blockade of Cuba”, this Sunday, April 25. The ANSWER Coalition, along with many other progressive groups, are a part of the international and national campaign to hold Cuba caravans the last Sunday of each month.

Despite Biden’s “promise” during the election campaign that he would revert U.S. policy on Cuba at least to the measures that Obama had implemented — allowing travel to Cuba, restoring the right of Cuban-Americans to send remittances to their families on the island, that does not seem to be the case.
On Sunday, April 11, on national television, Juan González, Biden’s advisor on Western Hemisphere issues in the National Security Council, told CNN in Spanish (translated): “The political moment has changed in an important way, the political space has been closed a great deal because the Cuban government has not responded in any way, and in fact, the oppression against Cubans is even worse today than perhaps it was during the (George W.) Bush (2001-2009) administration.”
This ridiculous claim by González means that the more than 240 measures that Trump took against Cuba to intensify the U.S. blockade will continue under Biden. This includes the banning of badly-needed remittances, placing Cuba on the "sponsor of state terrorism" list, forcing other countries to also deny Cuba trade. The “state terrorism” charge is false and an outrage. It is Cuba that has suffered from U.S.-backed terrorist attacks that have killed 3,478 Cuban citizens and injured 2,099.
The 60-year blockade is a violation of International law. It is a criminal and inhumane policy to punish the Cuban people for their independence and sovereignty.
If there is any doubt that the U.S. blockade’s objective is to directly harm the Cuban people, this Apr. 6, 1960 excerpt makes it clear. It is from a secret, now declassified memorandum by Lester D. Mallory, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State under President Eisenhower. He wrote it to propose an economic blockade:
"Most Cubans support Castro…There is no effective political opposition (…) The only possible way to make the government lose domestic support is by provoking disappointment and discouragement through economic dissatisfaction and hardships (…) Every possible means should be immediately used to weaken the economic life (…) denying Cuba funds and supplies to reduce nominal and real salaries with the objective of provoking hunger, desperation and the overthrow of the government."
That U.S. genocidal policy remains the same 61 years later. It is time that we people in the United States stand with Cuba to say No More!
Please join one of the Car Caravans on Sunday, April 25. This is a great way to educate the public, raise visibility on this critical struggle.
Please help publicize the caravans and take part! If there is not a caravan in your town for April 25, consider organizing one.
In the meantime, please enjoy this 12 min. video that aired on CNN recently <[link removed]>, an amazing segment lauding Cuba's biotechnology industry and vaccines development.
Please make an urgently needed donation to the antiwar movement today. We can only carry on this crucial work with contributions from supporters like you. <[link removed]>
