Washington, DC - OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates joins our partner, South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) and the Sikh community in mourning the loss of four community members, along with four other victims, in the Indianapolis FedEx shooting on April 15, 2021.
“We send our warmth and love to the community in Indiana, and hope that our colleagues, friends, and loved ones heal and find strength to return to work and life,” said Linda Ng, OCA National President. “We stand with our South Asian siblings, as this tragedy has struck fear and grief into the community across the country. Though the motivation of the gunman is not yet clear, the violence and attack amidst anti-Asian sentiments recalls the targeted violence against South Asians post-9/11. We cannot let our communities continue to be scapegoated. We call on leaders to continue working on tangible ways to address hate crimes and gun violence, and we call on every community member to lean in and protect one another.”
If you, your family members, someone you know, or community members have experienced xenophobia, discrimination, or harassment, please report the incident using our hate crime/incident reporting tool at www.aapihatecrimes.org.
OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
