Friend,
When I decided to run for Senate, it wasn’t about me — I wanted to advance the causes and values that represent the best of this country and build a future for my kids’ generation that’s better than our own. I firmly believe the way to do that is to elect leaders who understand what it means to serve and to put country first.
That’s why I'd like to introduce you to an organization you might not know, but that has done tremendous work to have the backs of those who have served our country. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is a nonprofit that has been at the forefront of advocating for post-9/11 veterans since 2004. Their work has been instrumental in passing the Deborah Sampson Act which provides much-needed support for women veterans, as well as the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
But there is much more left to be done. As a nation, we aren't seriously tackling the very real issue of veteran suicide and mental health. IAVA is pushing Congress to make strides on that issue and by reforming our Veterans Administration, calling on Congress for special immigrant visas for those who fought side by side with us overseas, making cannabis legal for medicinal use, and getting post-9/11 veterans the health care and benefits they deserve.
Maybe what I love most is that IAVA isn't afraid to hold politicians’ feet to the fire when it comes to veterans issues. No matter your party or your background, IAVA will do its part to ensure our leaders take care of those who served us.
I have a hunch that you think that’s important, too. If so, I hope you would consider making a donation today to support IAVA and help our country fulfill its promise to honor and support vets. [[link removed]]
Thank you,
Amy
