John,
This week, the House will vote on HR 51 — a bill to admit Washington, D.C. as the 51st state in the union and grant long-overdue representation to a city of over 720,000.
Barbara has been a longtime advocate for D.C. statehood and giving its residents the representation they’ve been robbed of for so long. Now, Congress has an opportunity to act — and we’re counting on you to make your voice heard and join the call for D.C. statehood.
D.C. residents deserve the same rights and representation as all of us. Will you sign our petition to join Barbara in calling on Congress to act now and pass the D.C. statehood bill immediately? [[link removed]]

We have the opportunity to correct historical wrongs that have made Congress underrepresent communities of color.
Washington, D.C. is one of our nation’s most historic Black cities, but currently its residents do not have any voting representation in Congress. Heavily white populated states like Wyoming and Vermont have far fewer people than the historically majority-Black District of Columbia, but still reap the full benefits of statehood.
Here’s the truth — D.C. residents deserve the same rights as people from Vermont or Wyoming or Delaware or Alaska. Each day we postpone statehood, we hurt our democracy, and we willingly disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters.
It is long past time to grant D.C. admission as the 51st state. If you agree, join Barbara in demanding Congress move swiftly to pass HR 51 granting D.C. statehood by adding your name to our petition. [[link removed]]
