Because every day the drug war continues. And every day we’re fighting to end it, one victory at a time.
For example, thanks to DPA, New Mexico and New York just became the 16th and 17th states to legalize marijuana for adult use and to begin to repair the harms of prohibition that have disproportionately impacted Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities in their states. But there is still more to do.
In fact, last month, the White House confirmed that it fired five staffers because of their past marijuana use. They defended their decision by saying “it is still illegal federally.” We will not let these harmful drug war policies stand. We need marijuana justice.
One person is still arrested nearly every minute simply for possessing marijuana, saddling people with lifelong burdens that make it harder to get a job, an apartment, student financial aid, or a credit card.
You can see why our advocacy requires daily effort on multiple fronts. Monthly donors are a critical part of sustaining our work year-round.
We need your support to build on other recent successes including Oregon becoming the first state in the nation to decriminalize all drugs while expanding access to health services, and Congress repealing the “drug question” that made students ineligible for federal financial aid if they had been convicted of a drug crime.
