Friend,

Public housing was created to serve as a safe and affordable lifeline for families in New York and nationwide. But years of disinvestment has left our nation’s public housing system in a state of disrepair.

The current state of many public housing units is a direct threat to the health and safety of the families who call them home. Residents suffer from a consistent lack of hot water, insufficient heat during the winter months, rodent and insect infestations, broken elevators, and widespread and recurring lead and mold problems.

As Congress begins our work to Build Back Better, we must send federal investments directly to public housing authorities nationwide to eliminate the capital backlog -- which currently stands at $70 billion. I've introduced a bill to do just that.

Can you chip in right now to ensure I can continue fighting to repair our public housing in NYC and nationwide?

Without this support, New York and other cities across the country are at risk of losing public housing, a vital source of affordable housing that supports over one million households nationally, due to neglect. Housing is needed now more than ever, which is why my bill would provide substantial funding for capital repairs and upgrades.

I'm taking concrete steps towards renewing our nation’s commitment to public housing residents during the pandemic and beyond. Will you join me?

Thank you,
Nydia
