John,

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a shadowy right-wing group that, for years, has coordinated backwards policies and tactics in state legislatures across the country.

At its core, ALEC is a membership organization for state lawmakers who want to push right-wing policies. The group drafts model bills that are then picked up and introduced into state legislatures.

ALEC-generated bills have been linked to state laws opposed to clean energy, blocking climate progress, and criminalizing protests against pipeline and fossil fuel projects.

It comes as no surprise, then, to learn of a secret call in late February of ALEC members with former Utah state representative Ken Ivory. Ivory falsely claimed President Biden’s January executive order on climate change entrenches federal power was unlawful.

During the hour-long call, Ivory presented three potential strategies for states to use in fighting back against President Biden’s climate plan: 1.
Nullification,
or
passing
state
legislation
to
invalidate
federal
actions
states
believe
are
unconstitutional;
2.
Calling
for
a
constitutional
convention
that,
once
convened,
would
pass
amendments
giving
states
more
power
to
reverse
climate
initiatives;
and
3.
The
passage
of
non-binding
resolutions
designed
to
symbolically
limit
the
federal
government's
ability
to
implement
pro-environment
policy.

ALEC’s single-minded purpose is to undermine progressive climate initiatives, no matter what it takes. On issues like climate change and moving away from dependency on fossil fuels, ALEC has been leading the charge to stop pro-environmental policies.

John, with powerful fossil fuel industry funding behind them, we must take the threat of organizations like ALEC seriously. They want to destroy the most critical climate proposal in our history. We need to make sure our SEEC members of Congress have the resources needed to fight back against ALEC and similar groups. Can you pitch in a donation right away? → [[link removed]]
