Friends --
Nearly 85,000 people in Rhode Island lack access to a government issued ID, and the costs to obtain an ID can be prohibitive for low-income communities.
Often, first-time applicants need to pay for birth certificates and other documents in order to complete the process, to the tune of $30 - $50 out of pocket. With lack of ID limiting the ability to get a job, many ID-less residents cannot afford these costs.
We can do better, Friends. That's why I recently sponsored a bill in the state legislature that would repeal the state voter ID law, plain and simple. But we need your help to put pressure on the legislature to pass it.
TELL THE RHODE ISLAND STATE LEGISLATURE
TO PASS S. 0181.
COUNT ME IN » ([link removed])
There’s no excuse for a Democratically-controlled legislature to continue upholding such a restrictive voter ID law. At a time when most of the country is trying to suppress the vote, Rhode Island has an opportunity to be one state that ensures every citizen has the right to go to the polls.
We should be fighting every day to uplift the voices of those who have been historically left out and doing everything we can to encourage their participation in our democracy. Can you help us get it done?
In solidarity,
Tiara Mack
