Dear Supporter,

Two weeks ago, The Sentry published a new investigative report, "The Taking of South Sudan." [ [link removed] ] Our report exposed the profiteering activities of an array of tycoons, business networks, and multinational companies, and the looting of billions of dollars from the world's youngest nation as its people were killed, starved, and run off their lands.

And the international community took notice -- Our report received worldwide media coverage, with over 700 articles in 18 languages, from the "New York Times" to brave reporting by press in South Sudan and across the region.
* Read: This morning, "USA Today" ran a new op-ed "Violence is the business model in South Sudan" [ [link removed] ] by my fellow Co-Founder of The Sentry George Clooney and me, detailing the significance of the report.
* Watch: George and I discuss the investigation in two exclusive TV interviews on CNN [ [link removed] ] and BBC [ [link removed] ].
* In the region: South Africa's "Mail & Guardian" digs into a scandal [ [link removed] ] highlighted in the report linking South Sudan's National Security Service and a South African aviation firm, and Kenya's "The East African" details the looting [ [link removed] ] of state resources.

On Saturday, the US Department of State announced in a rare official press release [ [link removed] ] that they "will review the allegations cited in The Sentry report and will carefully consider the recommendations to strengthen efforts to end illicit financial flows to and from South Sudan."

This is just a first step to hold accountable those who have profited, and continue to profit, from corruption, violence and human rights abuses in South Sudan. Our work continues.

Sincerely,

John Prendergast
