Dear John,
As you know, voting-by-mail (or voting by absentee ballot) received newfound attention during the 2020 election because of safety concerns related to in-person voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, a majority of seniors chose vote-by-mail in an effort to exercise their right to vote and stay safe during the pandemic.
Yet, despite the fact that studies have shown vote-by-mail to be consistently free of fraud, hundreds of bills with provisions that restrict voting access have either passed or are now pending in most state legislatures across the country.
That’s why I need you to sign the National Committee’s Petition to Congress and urge your U.S. Senators to support the “For the People Act” (H.R. 1), which recently passed in the U.S. House of Representatives and contains a set of national mail-in voting standards, guaranteeing no-excuse mail-in voting.
The National Committee believes that the best system of voting is one that encourages the maximum number of legitimate votes cast, with safety and convenience being two essential pillars of such a system. Given the advantages and encouraging results of the nation’s vote-by-mail experience, and the paucity of evidence of voter fraud, the National Committee opposes efforts by selected states to narrow vote-by-mail protocols and infringe on seniors’ rights to have a voice in their government.
So please ensure your voice is heard on this critical issue that impacts your constitutional right to vote by signing our Petition to support the “For the People Act” today! As the population of the country ages, the need for a vote-by-mail option becomes more critical. And Congress must provide older adults with the assurance they will be able to participate in future elections!
Sincerely,
