Meeting The Needs Of Arizona Students

Arizona school districts continue to meet and exceed teacher pay raises as part of the 20x2020 plan, passed in 2018 to raise teacher pay 20 percent by 2020. The Arizona Republic this morning published an analysis of school districts and charters around the state and how increased dollars for K-12 education, including $470 million targeted for teacher pay raises over the last two years, is increasing teacher salaries. From the story:

The boosts have moved the needle: In the 2017-2018 school year, 272 districts and charters reported average salaries between $30,000 and $40,000. This year, 71 districts reported in that range.

More districts are reporting salaries in the $40,000 to $50,000 range: 364 this year, compared to 280 in 2017-2018.

Nearly 150 schools this year reported average salaries between $50,000 and $60,000 compared to 38 in 2017-2018.
Under the 20x2020 plan, Arizona aimed to provide teachers with 10 percent raises last year, followed by 5 percent raises this school year and an additional 5 percent raises for the 2020-2021 school year. In total, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 budget added $660 million new dollars for K-12 public schools.
