U.S. Army Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario was pulled over by police back
in December, ordered out of his vehicle, screamed at and pepper sprayed
multiple times -- all because police claim he was missing a license plate
on his SUV.
If you have watched the body cam footage you will know, Nazario is visibly
scared during the interaction. He even tells the officers at one point
that he is afraid to exit his car, to which one officer responds, “Yeah,
you should be.”
That chilling statement -- along with the brazenly violent and
disrespectful treatment of an Army Officer wearing his uniform --
demonstrates to me that this kind of behavior towards Black and Brown
Americans is common practice in the Windsor, Virginia police department.
[ [link removed] ]That’s why I am calling on Attorney General Merrick Garland to
investigate whether the Windsor police department regularly engages in
searches that violate people’s 4th Amendment rights or uses
disproportionate force against people of color. Will you add your name to
mine and call for a full investigation? Sign on here.

As the trial for George Floyd’s killer continues, it is heart-wrenching to
see another Black man — a fellow Soldier serving our nation, no less —
endure such awful police brutality.
Thank you for reading and for taking action.
All my best,
Tammy Duckworth
