Email from Physicians for Reproductive Health

Dear John,

For Black Maternal Health Week 2021, our physician advocates were proud to help build support for Black maternal health, rights, and justice. PRH will continue to leverage the voices of our advocates to end racial inequities in all aspects of reproductive health care.

If you missed any of our work for #BMHW21, you can find a roundup here:

Podcasts:

  • On RePROs Fight Back, listen to PRH President & CEO Dr. Jamila Perritt and Fellow Dr. Mishka S. Peart talk Black maternal health and reproductive justice.
  • Dr. Perritt talked to NPR Life Kit about how we can do more for patients and families coping with pregnancy loss.

In the news:

  • Fellow Dr. Aisha Wagner joined The Special Report with Areva Martin for a panel on how structural racism in medicine impacts Black pregnant people.
  • Dr. Perritt authored a piece for Rewire News Group on why abortion access must be part of the conversation around Black maternal health. In Colorado Politics, Dr. Perritt shared how the state’s Birth Equity Package would increase equitable access to care for pregnant people of color.

On our blog:

  • Hear from Fellow Dr. Ariel Franks on how we can improve outcomes for Black patients and the key policies we’re pushing for to address this crisis.

Thank you for learning with us all last week and amplifying the critical work of Black-led, Black-centered partner organizations like Black Mamas Matter Alliance.

These is still much work ahead to ensure all people can access the reproductive health care they need, and we’re glad to have you with us.

Onward,
