Register while you still can for Arlington Chamber Volunteer Day! Now more than ever, it is important that the community comes together to find ways to support each other. There are still projects for volunteers to choose from to help local nonprofits, as nonprofits have been especially hard-hit by the current crisis.

Arlington Chamber Volunteer Day will start with a virtual kickoff at 12:00 p.m. with County Board Chair, Matt de Ferranti, as the kickoff speaker. Following the kickoff, volunteers will complete the projects they selected between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. The projects provided are in accordance with the latest federal, state, and local COVID-19 guidelines.

We are pleased to note that the County Board on Saturday approved allowing more flexibility for site plan projects deliver affordable housing, which the Chamber supported. In part due to the Chamber's efforts, the amendments to the Arlington County Zoning Ordinance allow the County Board to approve more bonus height for certain projects that are 100% low- or middle-income housing or that meet the goals of the Affordable Housing Master Plan. Projects receiving bonus height will need to design it to establish effective transitions to neighboring developments.

I first became interested in the Chamber when I was looking into their operations and the community they served. Reading through what the Chamber does, I realized that this would be a place that interested me -- the crossroads of private enterprise and public policy.
