Dear Friend --

A few years ago when we learned LA Metro was going to dispose of the very first rail car in service, I introduced legislation to preserve it. Our goal was to bring the car home to Long Beach and transform it into a cafe or museum -- keeping its rich history alive.

This train, the exact one pictured above, took the first trip from LA to Long Beach in 1990. The original Blue Line train was named after our city and launched what we know today as the modern LA County rail system.

The train is being restored to its original design and our plan is to display it near our transit mall on 1st Street between Elm Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard.

This item will be in front of the City Council at our upcoming meeting and I am excited to work on plans for a future display.

Thank you,

Mayor Robert Garcia
