America is a nation founded on the enslavement of Black people; our history of inequality stems from our very beginnings.

The project of righting this wrong has been going for centuries. The nationwide protests after the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and other Black people who were brutalized by police represent only a fraction of the pain and hurt we’ve been through—that we continue to go through—as a country.

I’ve dedicated my life to the pursuit of justice. I studied the justice system and became a lawyer. I helped hold our government to account when working for Elijah Cummings. I was the youngest-ever President of the largest NAACP chapter in Virginia. I worked with public schools to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline.

I know my advocacy record speaks for itself. My criminal justice policy platform goes even further. I’m committed to scaling back the roles of the police as well as investing in mental health, education, and housing instead of in jails, prisons, and mass incarceration.
