Friend,
In 2020, Michigan voters turned out in record numbers and elected President Biden by a difference of over 154,000 votes. In response, Michigan Republicans have introduced nearly 40 bills intended to disenfranchise millions of Black and brown voters in largely Democratic districts.
And, they’re trying to bypass Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s promised veto.
Read Rashida’s email below, which explains some of the many ways Republicans are threatening our democracy and our right to vote. Then donate today to fight back against these racist attempts to suppress the vote.
Thank you for always having Rashida’s back and for fighting to strengthen our democracy.

Friend,
Voter suppression is alive and well in battleground states across the country. Right now in Michigan, there’s a massive Republican push to disenfranchise voters, just like we saw with Georgia’s recent series of bills, dubbed “Jim Crow 2.0.”
Republicans are trying to rig the rules in their favor. Instead of trying to appeal to the needs of voters after their 2020 loss, they just want to limit who can vote.
Like in Georgia, Michigan Republicans are proposing strict voter ID laws. These laws add unreasonable hurdles intended to suppress the vote, and they disproportionately disenfranchise Black, brown, low-income, and elderly voters.
We can't go backwards. We urgently need a more equal and just democracy.
Donate today to fight back against GOP attempts to disenfranchise millions of Michigan voters.
Like in Georgia, Michigan Republicans are proposing limitations on ballot drop boxes. Michigan officials want to allow election officials to block drop boxes on the county level and stop voters from accessing drop boxes after 5pm the night before an election.
Different from Georgia’s law, Michigan Republicans want to ban local governments from providing postage page return envelopes with absentee ballots. This would make voting absentee like a poll tax. They also want to require video surveillance of absentee ballot drop boxes and allow political parties to film ballot tabulation—intended to intimidate voters and poll workers alike.
These anti-democracy voter suppression tactics are the result of “the Big Lie” perpetrated by Trump and his followers—not coincidentally, after massive Black and brown voter turnout. These efforts in Michigan and across the country are a racist attempt to deny people the constitutional right to vote.
Although Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has promised to veto these attacks on our voting rights, Michigan Republicans are using a mechanism in the state constitution to bypass Governor Whitmer’s veto, instead putting these voter suppression bills on the ballot.
We’re fighting back against attempts to disenfranchise millions of voters—particularly Black and brown voters—in Michigan and across the country.
