Amid concern about domestic extremism in the United States, CSIS data shows a growing number of U.S. military and law enforcement personnel involved in plots and attacks. The percentage of attacks and plots committed by active-duty and reserve personnel rose to 6.4 percent in 2020, up from 1.5 percent in 2019, and none in 2018.

There is a widening, increasingly conspicuous gap between the world’s wealthiest and most powerful states and low- and middle-income countries in terms of timely and affordable vaccine access. As of April 12, nearly 806 million vaccinations had been administered worldwide, but nearly 90 percent of those vaccines have gone to residents of high- and middle-income countries.

While there is no official U.S. estimate of how quickly Iran could acquire enough fissile material for a nuclear device or to have credible delivery capability, some of the most sophisticated open source estimates have put the time at a nominal year, or even as short as 2.7 months—but they are not based on access to classified data .

The greatest innovations of the past 50 years have all derived from the internet, the computer, and digital technology. However, only 47 percent of U.S. high schools offer at least one computer science course as of 2020—risking U.S. competitiveness in global technology.
