Welcome to another edition of FT Now! It’s the end of another eventful week in the news, so let’s dive right into the top stories! First up, Gov. Abbott and Gov. Ducey teamed up in an opinion piece that outlined the Biden Administration’s responsibility for the crisis at the southern border. Next, Democrat New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham reached a settlement with a former campaign employee who accused her of unwanted sexual behavior. Finally, Congressional Democrats have introduced dangerous legislation to pack the Supreme Court.

The border crisis in our states was created by the Biden administration
What Happened:
In an opinion piece, Texas Gov. Abbott and Arizona Gov. Ducey called out the Biden Administration for the current migrant crisis at the southern border.
Why You Should Care:
The governors pointed out that President Biden and Vice President Harris encouraged migrants to come across the border through policies and communications, rushed to reverse President Trump’s immigration policies, and are now politicizing the issue without visiting the border firsthand.
What Happens Next:
To begin to fix this crisis, the governors argued, the administration must reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols and communicate clearly that our borders are not open.

New Mexico governor settles with former campaign aide over claim of unwanted sexual behavior
What Happened:
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has reportedly reached a settlement with a former campaign spokesperson who made allegations of unwanted sexual behavior.
Why You Should Care:
Gov. Lujan Grisham, who also chairs the Democrat Governors Association, has neither apologized for the alleged behavior nor admitted any guilt, but instead used the payments to silently resolve the scandal. In any case, New Mexico voters deserve to know the truth about what their governor did, or didn’t do, in this case.
What Happens Next:
It is doubtful that Gov. Lujan Grisham will apologize now that a settlement has been reached.

Democrats Introducing Legislation To Pack Supreme Court With 4 New Justices, Report Says
What Happened:
On Thursday, House and Senate Democrats introduced legislation to increase the number of Supreme Court Justices from 9 to 13.
Why You Should Care:
This move - also known as “court packing” - will drastically shift the balance of judicial power and reshape the nation’s highest court for partisan political gain. This is a blatant attempt to reshape the court solely for the purpose of enacting a progressive policy agenda, and Democrats should be ashamed of themselves.
What Happens Next:
Packing the Supreme Court is a controversial issue, and many on both sides of the aisle have expressed opposition-- most recently left-leaning Justice Breyer. The bill will be difficult to pass, however, the findings of President Biden’s commission to study the issue could change its legislative outcome.
