$28 Trillion
National Debt Means Every Taxpayer Holds $855,000 of
Debt
Here in Wyoming, we understand the importance of living
within our means. We don’t spend more than we have, we save when
times are good, and we take pride in not saddling future generations with
debt.
Unfortunately, the United States Congress does not
have the same fiscal discipline. Congress passes bill after bill with
price tags in the trillions and we don’t make plans to pay for
them. When I was in the House of Representatives, I balked at our $14
trillion in debt. Today we have amassed an eye-popping $28
trillion in debt. At the rate we are going, the United States could
soon spend more money on interest on the national debt than it does on
defense.
I introduced the
Sustainable Budget Act this week to create a commission
that will work on bipartisan, realistic solutions to our budget crisis.
It would be comprised of individuals of both parties who would be
tasked with creating a bipartisan plan to reduce the deficit and balance
the federal budget within 10 years.
The time to take decisive,
bipartisan action and change our trajectory is long overdue. Congress
needs to take a page out of Wyoming’s book and make some tough
choices to ensure that our grandchildren get to enjoy the prosperity
and financial security with which we have been blessed.
Happy
Trails,

and gave them a tour of the Energy and Natural Resources hearing
room. I had the opportunity to talk to Grace Foulk of Wyoming News Now
about how my office can help you with issues you may be facing with
the federal government. Click below to check out the segment!

WYOMING FUN
FACTS
Devils Tower, located near Hulett in
northeastern Wyoming, was the first designated national monument in the United
States. Senator Lummis has introduced a bill to protect the name of
Devils Tower. You can read more about that legislation here.
