Stop 'Operation Safety Net'
Dear John,
ICYMI: On Thursday, TakeAction joined dozens of organizations calling on Governor Walz, Mayor Frey, Mayor Carter, and Sheriff Hutchinson to stop ‘Operation Safety Net.’ We need everyone who is with us to raise their voices. Add your name to this petition now, and share it with your networks.
Our communities have the right to live and protest without being terrorized by a militarized police force. ‘Operation Safety Net’ is the state’s militarized operation organized ahead of the trial of Derek Chauvin. It is now being deployed in Brooklyn Center in response to Minnesotans’ grief at the murder of Daunte Wright at the hands of an ex-Brooklyn Center police officer.
The health of our communities was at a breaking point before the death of Daunte Wright. The state’s use of force against Minnesotans exercising their first amendment rights in Brooklyn Center and militarization of our cities in response to police violence is wrong, traumatizing, and adding to the public health crisis of COVID, police brutality, and systemic racism. The continued use of militaristic tools of oppression to intimidate and halt peaceful, if justifiably angry, protest is another sign that Minnesota continues to prioritize white fears over Black lives.
As we await a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin and continue to confront the White supremacy upon which our state was built, we call on Gov. Walz, Mayor Frey, Mayor Carter, and Sheriff Hutchinson to stop ‘Operation Safety Net’ immediately and stop militarizing our communities.
Let’s make sure everyone who is with us takes action. Can you sign the petition now and share it with your networks?
Together in la lucha,
Amanda Otero
