John,
Yesterday I sent you an email about the GOP’s new “America First Caucus". I said it before and I’ll say it again: this is nothing more than a White Nationalism Caucus.
White nationalism is a persistent and growing threat to our country. All too often, we describe the perpetrators of mass shootings and domestic terrorism as “lone wolf” attackers — but this could not be further from the truth.
These “lone wolf” attackers often belong to white supremacist organizations and terrorist networks online — groups that glorify violence and encourage members to commit acts of terror against their fellow Americans.
After January 6, it became clear that homegrown white supremacist extremism is one of the biggest threats to the safety and security of American democracy — and ignoring it is no longer an option.
By creating a White Nationalism Unit within the Department of Justice, we can dedicate the staff and resources it will take to identify and dismantle the networks that allow violent extremism to flourish online. Simultaneously, we can begin to get a better understanding of how these groups develop and recruit members, so that we can stop these groups from organizing altogether.
Thank you for taking action!
