Now, the work begins. SEEC members of Congress will be on the frontline of legislative efforts to build on, strengthen and advance this plan.
John,
It is a relief to see serious ideas coming from the White House again. President Joe Biden’s infrastructure proposal isn’t just a traditional roads and bridges package — it’s a proposal that takes a new, sustainable approach to infrastructure planning with an eye for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building more resiliently. And importantly, it includes policies to sustainably revitalize not just roads and bridges but also public transit, energy infrastructure and the natural resources that protect our built infrastructure.
For starters, here are some critical SEEC priorities in the proposal:
Investment in the development and deployment of zero-emission vehicles, buses, and charging stations, as well as increased funding for public transit.
Restoration of nature-based infrastructure and the capping of hundreds of thousands of orphaned oil and gas wells while reclaiming thousands of abandoned mines.
Revitalizing our water infrastructure and removing lead water lines.
Modernizing our electrical grid while implementing standards to eliminate greenhouse gas pollution from our electricity sector are featured prominently.
Finally, the plan also outlines significant investments to address the historical inequities that have hindered many low-wealth populations and communities of color. It’s an essential step in tackling environmental and climate justice.
The American Jobs Plan is a significant step forward in building a more equitable, just, and secure nation while helping us protect the planet from climate change. Now, the work begins. SEEC members of Congress will be on the frontline of legislative efforts to build on, strengthen and advance this plan.
With a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect our communities and the planet by developing legislation to advance robust, job-creating climate and sustainable infrastructure policies, SEEC members are already working with the White House and congressional colleagues to strengthen and pass the American Jobs Plan.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
