Dear Friend,
Essential workers have always been essential. The pandemic has thrown this into stark relief and it's time for essential workers to finally receive the safety standards, better pay, and working conditions they deserve. DC Jobs with Justice is calling on Mayor Bowser to use the budget process to enact a DC Essential Workers Bill Of Rights.
Mayor Bowser has the power to give every essential worker a right to paid sick leave, hazard pay and more in her upcoming budget. Join the Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO and DC Jobs with Justice in calling on the Mayor to take action for essential workers at the Virtual Rally for the DC Essential Workers Bill Of Rights!
Virtual Rally for the DC Essential Workers Bill Of Rights
Wednesday, May 5, 6:00 – 7:00pm
RSVP and sign the petition!
At the rally we will hear from essential workers about their experiences during the pandemic and how the DC Essential Workers Bill Of Rights would improve their life. Please be sure to also sign the petition in support of the DC Essential Workers Bill Of Rights. Together we can win better health and safety standards, hazard pay, and improved working conditions for all essential workers.
Intern with DC Jobs with Justice
DC Jobs with Justice is excited to announce two new paid internship opportunities this summer:
Communications and Fundraising Internship
This position will focus on DC JWJ’s 20th Anniversary fundraising and communications strategy. DC JWJ is embarking on an ambitious fundraising and storytelling project that will celebrate our 20thanniversary, engage our community, and share our vision for the future.
The ideal applicant has some communications experience or is studying communications, is interested in fundraising and storytelling from a social justice perspective, and is very attentive to details. This position is based in DC, and mostly remote due to COVID-19, however occasional in-person activities are required.
Organizing Internship for Howard University or UDC Undergraduate Students
During this internship, students will become familiar with labor laws, organizing, unions, outreach and policies that impact the most vulnerable residents in DC. Students will also learn the importance of public education around worker right's and fighting for justice and equality in DC.
DC Jobs With Justice is an equal opportunity employer. We strongly encourage people of color, native Washingtonians, graduates of DC public schools, women, LGBTQ, and differently-abled people to apply. DC JWJ has a preference for students at DC HBCUs including Howard and UDC.
In solidarity,
