Pray for Stirling Free Church court case

Dear supporter,

On Monday, Stirling Free Church will go to court in a hugely important case. There are implications for Bible-believing churches across the UK.

With the help of The Christian Institute, it is bringing a legal action for religious discrimination against multimillion pound organisation, The Robertson Trust. The case will be heard over three days next week.

You may recall that the Trust’s former CEO Kenneth Ferguson was sacked when the chairwoman, Shonaig Macpherson, heard that Stirling Free Church was renting Trust premises for its Sunday services.

The church had its contract terminated and was ordered to leave, with the Trust claiming it had a policy of not renting for activities promoting religion. A senior member of staff later admitted that, at the time, no such policy existed.

Witnesses reported that Macpherson objected to the church’s use of the premises, because “they don’t believe in same-sex marriage”.

Stirling Free Church is just one of the thousands of faithful churches around the country that hold to the biblical belief that marriage is only between a man and a woman. They should not be thrown out of hired premises because of that belief.

If you would like to make a donation to help with the legal costs for this case and others like it, you can do so here. Most importantly, please pray for:

  • Revd Iain MacAskill and all at Stirling Free Church;
  • The Advocates representing the church: Aidan O’Neill QC and David Welsh, and the solicitors working with them;
  • Sam Webster, our in-house lawyer who is overseeing the case;
  • Fair and widespread reporting of the case in the press;
  • A just outcome that protects the Christian belief that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Yours in Christ,
Ciarán Kelly
