Hi John,
In the last two weeks Positive Money’s been down to the seaside and up to the heart of the industrial revolution for the 2019 Labour and Conservative party conferences. Our events at both were a smashing success! Below is a mini summary of each one, and links to more information and photos.
At our events we brough together shadow ministers, academics, CEOs and policy experts to raise the profile of money and banking reform. We packed rooms with eager attendees, over a thousand people tuned into our livestreams and, thanks to hundreds of you who submitted questions, we included the voices of people from all across the country.
So from Jock in Dundee to Julia in Bournemouth, and the 200 supporters who chipped in so we could run these events in the first place, they were truly people-powered affairs! And rare chances for us to exercise some real democratic accountability about the future of our financial system - just what Positive Money is all about! |

In Brighton we asked ‘how will Labour pay for the green transition?’[1] Coming just days after the global climate strikes mobilized millions, and shortly followed by Labour’s approval of a Green New Deal, our discussion on how public and private finance can be mobilised to meet the UK’s climate goals was extremely relevant. |

In Manchester we quizzed our panel on whether UK banking was fit for purpose to shine a light on the failings of the current system. [2] This was a unique opportunity to share the urgent need for better banking services with party members and fly the flag for radical alternatives.

Sometimes it takes time for big ideas like the ones Positive Money has to be picked up by the people with the power to put them into practice. But by putting on top events like these at conferences, we’re getting closer and closer.
