Hello, Friends —

With the chaos of the national news cycle, it is easy to miss the critical work being done in Congress. We’ve had amazing victories for constituents in our district over the past year. I’m excited to share some of their stories with you today. Our team has accomplished so much this week, so here is a recap of our week in review:

GUNS & AMMO MAGAZINE OP-ED: FIGHTING BACK AGAINST THE BIDEN GUN CONTROL

The Biden Administration promised to tread on our Second Amendment rights. Now, he’s nominating anti-gun activist David Chipman to lead the ATF. I wrote an exclusive op-ed today in Guns & Ammo Magazine exposing Chipman’s desire for President Biden to use executive action to further dismantle gun rights. All Americans must call their Senators and demand they reject Chipman’s nomination to the ATF.

Yesterday in the House Armed Services Committee, I discussed the F-35 and its role in air dominance in Europe with Air Force General Todd Wolters, commander of U.S. European Command, as well as how capable our allies are in their ability to enhance their own defense mechanisms. Responding to the safety concerns and needs of the armed forces is my top priority in Congress, as the success our military mission is core to our district. I look forward to continuing this critical work!

"We had a number of discussions about Turkey's decision [to purchase the S400 plane with anti-aircraft missile capabilities] before it arose, and maybe we should have done more to ensure that that was the right decision.” -Rep. Matt Gaetz

BORN ALIVE ABORTION SURVIVORS PROTECTION ACT

Image

It is time to end infanticide.

Democrats are unsurprisingly blocking life-saving legislation to ensure medical care is provided to babies that have survived abortions.

This week, I have proudly co-signed Congresswoman Kat Cammack's petition to bring the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act up for a vote.

Congressman Burgess Owens (R-UT-4) gave a remarkable speech this week in the House Judiciary Committee describing how the unwavering strength of the black community has elevated them beyond the need for reparations.

"Every place Democrats oversee a black community in misery. And we're gonna blame white people? How about an ideology? - Rep. Burgess Owens

REP. GAETZ CALLS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO END COSTLY, INEFFECTIVE LIVE ANIMAL TESTING

Image

A Justice Department “dedicated to fair and impartial administration of justice” does not engage in atrocious acts of violence against innocent animals. But within the FBI and United States Marshals Service, the DOJ perpetuates it by allowing Live Tissue Training (LTT) on animals. I sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland this week urging them to stop this costly, ineffective practice.

AROUND THE DISTRICT

DISTRICT OFFICE SERVICE TO CONSTITUENTS

RETURNING MONEY TO THE PEOPLE

I am committed to ensuring everyone in our district has access to as many resources as possible to keep themselves and their families financially stable during these times.

This past year, our office successfully helped numerous constituents receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax refunds from the IRS back into their pockets!

HELPING VETERANS RESOLVE VA CASES

Veterans know better than anyone how difficult it is to receive quality VA assistance. When injured service members transition back into civilian life, there is no reason they should not be receiving the best-provided health care services available. That’s the least we can do to pay back for their enormous sacrifice.

A constituent who served in the military reached out to my office after he had been denied multiple times by the VA to receive disability benefits, which he was entitled to, like Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI). His case highlights just how challenging it is for disabled veterans, even with an attorney, to receive promised benefits. After our office intervened, this veteran’s TSGLI grant was approved for $100,000!

❖❖❖

A constituent’s husband passed away after years of service in the military. She applied for survivor's benefits, but the VA rejected her request. Without those benefits, she was facing eviction from her care facility with nowhere to go. After contacting our office to assist, she was able to receive the money she was entitled to, as well as monthly payments from the VA!

REUNITING FAMILIES

If your adopted son was incorrectly detained by ICE and transferred to multiple corrections facilities with little to no communication, what would you do?

This is the crisis Pensacola mother Janice Shirley faced recently when her adopted son Gustavo was pulled over and handcuffed by law enforcement. He was told that he was facing deportation. While in ICE custody, Gustavo was not receiving proper legal documents that would allow him to speak with legal counsel. Janice called our office, and we promised to get on the case. After ICE received a request from our office for her son to be released, Gustavo was reunited with his family!

I recently spoke with the winners of the Congressional App Challenge in Florida’s First District!

Alia Scotka and Jaden Griggs from Niceville High School developed an exciting new app called “Schmoni,” which makes crowdfunding for local schools easier than ever before. The creativity of students in our district is an inspiring testament to the talent their generation will utilize to improve their community and country!

HIGHWAY 85 BYPASS ADVOCACY

There’s big work being done to complete the Highway 85 Bypass in Northwest Florida!

I sent a letter to Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Noah Valenstein and encouraged the approval of the Wetlands Mitigation Plan to get this project finished. I am excited to explore the new economic and military opportunities this will bring to our district!
