The events of this last week have put our shared goals and the need to organize in our communities, into sharp focus.

Corporate Interference in Our Lives We’d like to highlight a new report ([link removed]) “How Corporations Keep Wages Low, Rents High and Democracy Out of Reach” from Partnership for Working Families. The report sheds light on how bad corporate actors push to keep wages low, rents high, and democracy out of reach – and how people are fighting back by organizing. The findings of this report underscore the need to continue organizing against corporate power in our communities and across the country.

Ending Police Violence We must all continue to take a stand against police brutality, as painfully evidenced by the recent murder of Daunte Wright ([link removed]) . He was shot to death by a police officer in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota – just 11 miles from where George Floyd was killed by police last year.

Below, you will find opportunities to engage and continue the fight on many issues that affect our communities. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic collapse, our partners stepped up to aid the communities we live in and provide the much-needed assistance at a time of crisis. This year, we recognize their hard work, honor their contributions and salute their grit to help our communities heal and keep them moving forward. Save the date for our virtual 2021 Salt of the Earth Awards and fundraiser to commemorate their efforts.

Demand That The MA Legislature Make Our Public Transit Systems Equitable And Affordable
Riders and workers are the lifeblood of our public transit systems. We must ensure that public transit in Massachusetts is affordable, equitable and accessible, and meets the needs of communities of color and working families. Sign this petition ([link removed]) and join the Public Transit Public Good Coalition in calling for:
1. One environmental justice rider seat and one worker seat on the new MBTA Board, chosen from nominations made by labor and community organizations.
2. Reduced fare programs for low-income riders on all modes.
3. New progressive revenue measures to ensure public transit is paid for by those who have plenty, not by those who are struggling to get by.

Green Justice Coalition Presents: #LetUsBreathe Online Rally
The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped our lives and it has revealed the cracks in our system that existed much before the pandemic began. It is time for us to address these issues and build our communities so that they benefit all of us.

The Green Justice Coalition invites you to join us for an online rally on World Asthma Day. Speakers will include advocacy groups, health professionals, and grassroots leaders and state legislators working on the frontlines to address the need for meaningful energy efficiency, public transit, and clean air access in Massachusetts’ EJ Communities.

MassCOSH: Workers’ Memorial Day
Please join MassCOSH, Mass AFL-CIO, Mass Jobs with Justice, and Community Labor United as we host a Workers’ Memorial Day ceremony to remember those who passed away from preventable workplace injuries and illnesses and to fight for safer, healthier workplaces. The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on how dangerous it is when employers do not provide life-saving health & safety protections for workers. The event will be broadcasted via MassCOSH’s Facebook live.

Matahari: Essential Worker Wage Theft Press Conference
Join domestic workers and restaurant workers on International Nanny Training Day. We are coming together as part of Matahari's Our Work Our Worth Wage Claim campaign to demand dignity at work – starting with the right to all the pay for which they have worked! Applauded as essential workers throughout the pandemic, these immigrant women workers care for children, provide cleaning services and work in restaurants. Too often, they are denied the pay for all hours worked. Join us to hear directly from workers who have won back wages and who are fighting for the money they are owed.

Building Worker Power
Unfortunately, the effort to unionize Amazon warehouse workers in Alabama fell short in the initial vote tally. But the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union workers in Bessemer, Alabama, are filing a legal challenge to the election, accusing Amazon of unfair labor practices and requesting a hearing by the National Labor Relations Board. Together, we will continue to lend our support to workers in struggles such as these both here and across the country.
