#KeeptheNine Protecting the Court Friend, Throughout the years, the Supreme Court has emerged as one of our most important -- and trusted -- institutions. After all, the Court is tasked with faithfully upholding the Constitution and rule of law. But yesterday, some of my colleagues sought to undermine trust in the Supreme Court by introducing a court packing proposal that would up end 150 years of precedent and add four justices to the Court. Let me be clear: this is a radical, political power grab that only serves to undermine confidence in the Supreme Court. But don't just take my word for it. As a Senator, Joe Biden called efforts to pack the Court "a boneheaded idea." Liberal Justice Stephen Breyer said it would erode trust in the Court, and former Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg panned the concept saying “nine is a good number.” In fact, the idea is so radical even Speaker Pelosi dismissed it at a press conference earlier this week. Republicans and Democrats alike know this is a bad idea, which is why I introduced a constitutional amendment that would cap the number of justices serving on the Court at nine. We have to act to preserve the integrity and independence of the Court, and I’ll continue working with my colleagues to do so. Semper Fi, P.S.
