Dear John,
We had an inspiring briefing from our Ranked Choice Voting bill authors in the Minnesota Senate yesterday! In this critical moment when the eyes of the world are on Minnesota, they are working to push our democracy forward and embrace reforms that will make it more inclusive, representative and responsive - which is exactly what we need. And they are strongly calling out the effort to ban Ranked Choice Voting and other anti-democratic measures in the Senate State Government Omnibus bill (SF 1831) that was heard in the Senate Finance Committee yesterday. More on this event and actions to take in our next newsletter!
The anti-RCV measure in the Senate State Government Omnibus bill, first introduced by Sen. Mark Koran, would ban Ranked Choice Voting and usurp control of local elections in Minnesota, even going so far as to overturn the votes of communities that adopted RCV by ballot measure. This ban is part of a larger effort by the Senate to make voting harder and take our democracy backwards. Please join our legislative supporters in denouncing these anti-democratic actions.
We cannot allow our lawmakers to trample on community rights and roll back our democracy. Please sign our petition and tell the Senate to stop the ban on RCV and local rights!
While we don’t expect the measure to succeed this year because there is no companion bill in the House, we must tell senators that Minnesotans do not support this backward, anti-democractic bill and, to the contrary, want to see RCV adopted statewide!
Make your voice heard for democracy and local control - and sign the petition!
Thank you for your steadfast commitment to helping us protect and advance RCV in our state.
