Our Condolences

While I typically use this space each week to share the good news about our state and party, last night’s incident at FedEx has caused Hoosiers everywhere to pause and pray. As of this writing, we’re still learning more about what happened and what motivated this senseless act of brutality and I want to express my condolences to the families of the 8 victims and their coworkers at FedEx.

I also want to extend my deepest thanks to our law enforcement officers who, once again, answered the dangerous call, got to the scene, and protected others from further violence. My continued prayers will be with the families of the victims and with our law enforcement community. I encourage you all to join me in sending strength to all those who need it today.

Thanks

Kyle

Governor Holcomb's Statement on Last Night's FedEx Shooting

"This is another heartbreaking day and I’m shaken by the mass shooting at the FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis. Indiana State Police are working with local responders and we will continue to offer any and all resources needed to assist during this tragedy. In times like this, words like justice and sorrow fall short in response for those senselessly taken. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, coworkers and all those affected by this terrible situation. Today, I will order that flags be lower to half-staff from now until sunset on Tuesday, April 20 in remembrance of those we've lost."

Former Vice President Mike Pence underwent surgery earlier this week to have a pacemaker implanted. The routine surgery was a success and Mike is expected to fully recover in the coming days. We’re wishing Mike well on his road to recovery and sending our prayers to him, Karen and the entire Pence family! Get well soon Mike!

Ramadan Message from RNC

We wanted to share and echo the Republican National Committee’s wishes for a Happy Ramadan to all Hoosiers observing this holy month.

“As tonight marks the beginning of Ramadan for Muslims around the world, we wish everyone observing a blessed and bright month ahead. We are inspired by our friends in the Muslim-American community practicing this period of fasting and spiritual discipline, and it is an invitation for all Americans, particularly during this unprecedented time in our history, to increase our devotion to prayer and adopt the same spirit of charity that defines this holy month.” -RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

RIP Bobby "Slick" Leonard

Indiana basketball legend Bobby “Slick” Leonard passed away earlier this week. Governor Holcomb issued this statement on the loss of a Hoosier icon:

“Slick Leonard is an Indiana icon. He was the embodiment of basketball with his wide-ranging career starting with his days as a high school player in Terre Haute, going on to Indiana University to win a college national championship, and then his career with the NBA as a player, coach, broadcaster, and savior of the Indiana Pacers. His presence in the arena and in our state will be deeply missed. You can’t find anyone who doesn’t love Slick.”
