** Texas is on the verge of another blackout. Nevermind you it's been mild and about as nice as it gets in the Lone Star State
------------------------------------------------------------
Forbes ([link removed]) (4/15/21) reports: "With roughly 25% of the Texas power grid’s generating units offline for maintenance, grid managers at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) once again expressed concerns about tight electricity supply on Wednesday. But ERCOT officials stopped short of issuing another emergency warning and asking Texans to conserve power as they did on Tuesday, an act that shocked electricity users who are not used to seeing such warnings on mild spring days in April. 'We may see tight grid conditions due to the large number of generators out of service for planned and forced maintenance combined with low wind and solar output forecasted for today,' said ERCOT Vice President of Grid Planning and Operations Woody Rickerson in a release. 'Additionally, we’re seeing some risk in the Rio Grande Valley due to the forced outage of a
generating unit in the area.' Put simply, here’s what we had: Intermittent forms of energy - i.e., wind and solar - providing well below their expected loads for this time of year. Wind provided roughly 60% of what ERCOT projected it would supply, while Solar provided only a little more than half of its expected supply. Why? Because the wind didn’t blow as much and the sun didn’t shine as much as ERCOT’s models anticipated they would."

"The bottom line is this: Politicians make a lot of promises [about infrastructure], but we shouldn't always believe them."

Ambassador to which country again?

** E&E News ([link removed])
(4/15/21) reports: "Former Utah Republican Gov. Jon Huntsman is taking on a new senior advisory role at Ford Motor Co...'Global policy is hugely important to transforming Ford and unlocking great value for customers and all stakeholders,' Farley said in a statement. 'Jon's background, insights and achievements are unrivaled — as an ambassador and trade representative, a state governor and a public-company executive.' The role comes shortly after Ford started selling the Mustang Mach-E, its first all-electric vehicle using a dedicated platform. The company plans to sell only electric vehicles in Europe by 2030, supports California's plan to ban internal combustion engine cars by 2035 and wants the federal government to put a price on greenhouse gas emissions. Ford said Huntsman's advisory role will include helping the company navigate the transition to manufacturing more electric vehicles. He'll work most closely with its government relations, general counsel, sustainability, environment and
safety engineering teams, the company said, and 'will represent Ford with certain government officials and influencers in the United States and other countries around the world.'"

The Biden Administration is about to throw the U.S. economy under the electric bus for some good media coverage on Earth Day. Meanwhile, China has no intention of revisiting its "aim" to max out emissions by 2030. Haven't we seen this movie before?

** ABC News ([link removed])
(4/16/21) reports: "A top Chinese diplomat said Friday that U.S. policy toward China is 'too negative' and that cooperation could be critically important as the Biden administration focuses on combatting COVID-19 and promoting economic recovery. The U.S. appears to be highlighting confrontation and playing down cooperation, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng said in a wide-ranging interview with The Associated Press. 'Such an approach, I must say, is too negative,' he said, adding that it lacks 'a forward-looking spirit.' Le also signaled that China is unlikely to make any new pledges at a climate change meeting called by President Joe Biden for next week. He spoke as Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry, was discussing the issue on the second day of closed-door meetings with Chinese counterparts in Shanghai. Chinese President Xi Jinping announced last year that China would be carbon-neutral by 2060 and aim to reach a peak in its emissions by 2030...Biden has invited 40 world leaders, including
Xi, to an April 22-23 virtual climate summit. The U.S. and other countries are expected to announce more ambitious national targets for cutting carbon emissions and pledge financial help for climate efforts by less wealthy nations."
