Yesterday, we learned about yet another incident of police violence, as footage was released of a Chicago police officer shooting a 13-year-old Latino boy named Adam Toledo.
An officer shot Adam with his hands in the air instantaneously after ordering him to do so. He was executed—a boy not yet in high school.
From the assault on Army Lt. Caron Nazario, to the murders of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo, the police violence we’ve seen this week is another painful reminder of our inaction to address the issue.
They deserve justice.
The Senate should immediately pass the House-passed George Floyd Justice in Policing Act—even if it requires ending the filibuster to do it. Enough is enough.
But federal action alone will not fix our broken public safety system. We need local accountability on police violence. In San Antonio—where 70% of officers are fired for misconduct—we have a ballot initiative called Proposition B to fix the accountability problem. These are the kinds of opportunities we get when we organize and elect bold candidates who aren’t afraid to act.
People First is working to support candidates fighting for accountability and justice. Can you help us?
Can you make a donation to power our work identifying and supporting courageous candidates fighting to overhaul our broken policing system? Our candidates cannot do this alone. They need our movement behind them. [[link removed]]
