Arena Community,
Earlier this year, we launched a Fellowship program to investigate the question: “How can campaigns be more equitable, inclusive, and welcoming to staff from all
backgrounds, and particularly staff of color?” Today, I’m excited to share our learnings with you and encourage you to apply or spread the word about Academy 201 -- a training that builds on these learnings.
At the start of 2021, two Fellows (and Arena Academy grads), Taré Suriel and Santiago Rosales, spent six weeks crafting a survey, conducting interviews, and compiling findings and recommendations for future campaign staff and managers.
They talked to staff who had positive and affirming experiences on campaigns and those who did not. Taré and Santiago synthesized their learnings into three tools for the Arena Toolbox:
These tools provide guides and frameworks for individuals to advocate for their needs and managers to design inclusive and welcoming work environments.
As hate and violence make daily headlines and rip through our communities, we must ensure progressive campaigns live up to progressive values. These guides help you navigate everything from hiring, to conflict resolution, to advocating for organizational change.
One of the most apparent findings in our research is that managers can make an outsized impact on how welcoming and inclusive campaigns are. That’s why we’re hosting Academy 201, a training specifically for managers and those looking to step into management roles.
If you want to level up your skills as a manager to build inclusive and equitable teams, apply to Arena Academy 201 by THIS Sunday, April 18, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Whether you apply to Academy 201, read our new tools, or share these opportunities with others, I’m excited for you to play a part in building a more just and equitable world.
Thanks,
Julia Leitner,
Training Director
