Hey there, welcome to the second quarter of 2021! We’ve had a lot going on in the last three months, and I wanted to make sure I had the opportunity to keep you abreast of our successes, our strategy, and what’s coming next.
-
Jill Underly won! In the first statewide election of the Biden era, WisDems-endorsed candidate Dr. Jill Underly won her race for Superintendent of Public Instruction, against her Scott Walker-endorsed opponent. The WisDems were proud to partner with the Underly campaign, and we made major investments in this race, in the form of digital ads, organizing power (our organizers made over HALF A MILLION voter contact efforts!), and more. You can sign Jill’s congratulations card if you haven’t already — we'll be delivering it at the end of the week!

Our Voter Protection Program made sure Wisconsinites' voices were heard. Every Wisconsinite should be able to have their voices heard in the democratic process, and our Voter Protection program is designed to ensure every single ballot is counted. For the Department of Public Instruction race, our Voter Protection team made thousands of calls to voters to help them correct certification errors with their absentee ballots, had hundreds of observers around the state to ensure that polling places ran smoothly, and ran the Voter Assistance Hotline to answer Wisconsinites' questions.

We’re already starting the work of defining Ron Johnson in our effort to replace him. Ron Johnson is embarrassingly bad at his job — and he proves it every time he opens his mouth. So, we’ve already started running digital ads and planning billboards to define Ron early, so when voters step into the ballot box in November 2022, there’s no question about what Ron’s values are.
-
In addition to the DPI race, we supported candidates down ballot all around the state and elected a slate of progressive champions around Wisconsin to key offices. Through our Local Candidate Support Program we were able to provide round-the-clock support services including but not limited to digital advertising, direct mail, social media guidance, and field assistance; building the bench for cycles to come. This Spring saw over twenty-five victories for down ballot Democrats that we assisted with.
-
We ran the first TV ad of the 2022 cycle — about Ron Johnson and his role in inciting the January 6th Capitol insurrection with his conspiracy theories. We’re not resting on our laurels, and we’re taking every opportunity to remind Wisconsin voters that Ron Johnson does not have our best interests at heart.
Thanks for all you do. None of this would be possible without you.
In gratitude,
Ben Wikler
