A beautiful care gathering with hundreds of thousands of people who give and receive care.

Hi John —

Last Saturday at our #CareCantWait Summit we were joined by hundreds of thousands of caregivers and care recipients from across the country, by care workers, by disability justice activists, by care advocates, by artists, and by officials including Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

I hope you were there and able to witness the transformative power of people coming together to speak, sing, and share about care. If you didn’t catch the summit, or if you want to rewatch the highlights, you can watch here!

Countless moments during the summit gave me goosebumps — nothing is more powerful than hearing caregivers, people with disabilities, older adults, and care workers share their experiences, love, and appreciation for each other.

I teared up hearing former NFL player and care activist Devon Still speak about caring for his young daughter during her cancer treatment: "Caretakers are tired of losing everything — their jobs, their homes, their cars, their life savings — for a chance to save their everything: the people they love and care about."

I was proud to hear my colleague Sade share her own experience as a sandwich generation caregiver for her young daughter and her parents, even as she has felt her care experiences are invisible. We are striving for Sade’s vision of a world where she doesn’t "have to choose between caring for my daughter and paying for her care, or caring for my mother and paying for hers. Where the waiting lists are clear, and the workers that come to support her are covered by insurance and paid well."

And I felt empowered to hear Vice President Harris share her commitment to uplifting all those who give and receive care: "We want to create an economy where care is readily available for those who need it. We want to ensure that caregivers are treated with respect. In supporting this economy, we will create the kind of change that lasts for generations."

Take a few minutes to relax and check out the Summit: the performances from India.Arie, Valerie June, and JOHNNYSWIM, hear the shared experiences of caregivers from across the country, and be part of this incredible moment to build a more caring future →

Finally, a gathering of this magnitude drawing together a cohort of caregivers along with influencers and political allies to celebrate and advocate for a comprehensive care agenda is only possible because of the continued support from our care community. In recognition of this pivotal moment, I hope you will consider a gift of $25 or more today!
