Hi John,
We've got a lot going on this Saturday -- figure out where you want to plug in with the Sunrise DC hub and see you there!
Support our Mutual Aid efforts!
This Saturday, we will be out tabling in Columbia Heights as a bridged effort between Team Mutual Aid & Project Vaccine Outreach to show up for our community. AND WHAT IS MORE: We plan to start doing this every other weekend as Project Feed the City!
We've been out here for months, thinking 🧠 learning 📚 & feeling 🌈 through how to reinvest our energy ⚡️ & love 💖 into the places we call home. (✊🏽 And we really wouldn't have gotten here without the countless and dedicated hours of conversation after conversation in our ever-so-thoughtful #bipoc caucus. ✊🏽)
☀️ There ☀️ are ☀️ so ☀️ many ☀️ ways ☀️ to ☀️ help ☀️
While the hub has been able to support our efforts to-date, we're getting more and more invested, and we need to start putting money directly into these efforts so that we can sustain them. These funds will be exclusively used to support tabling events such as these, to support our own Sunrise DC family when anyone needs it, and to really keep the love going where we want to see it going.
Sunrise for DC Statehood: Nationwide Organizing Call Saturday, April 17 at 2:00pm
Sunrise DC, along with our sister hubs across the country, are organizing for DC Statehood -- and we need one hour of help from organizers everywhere! More than 700,000 people live in DC, but don't have representation in Congress. That's more people than Vermont or Wyoming -- but unlike those states, DC is mostly people of color. Denying DC statehood and disenfranchising our majority-POC population is a form of voter suppression. As DC residents, we should have the right to elect Senators and Representatives who are going to fight white supremacy, throw down for environmental justice, and pass a Green New Deal.
Climate Justice is Immigrant Justice Saturday, April 17 at 2:00pm Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
We are joining NAKASEC, Community Change, Casa For All, Center for Popular Democracy, Firm Action, and United We Dream for a rally focused on the intersection of the climate crisis and immigration. Let's rally to end environmental racism and xenophobic immigration policy!
See you soon!
Peace, love, and mutual aid, Aura, Sunrise DC
